Much of south east Australia has been covered by bushfire smoke
from early December 2006 and into January 2007. The iconic
Melbourne Cricket Ground was, for a while, shrouded in a yellow
haze.
Towns in Gippsland fared worse with bushfires coming
close and the smoke turning daytime into nightime. This
picture (right) was taken at 2pm in Bairnsdale.
