Findings from the October 2013 bushfires in NSW

Research has been released following the Oct 2013 NSW bushfires

Resident experiences of the October 2013 bushfires in New South Wales' Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands and Port Stephens areas have been analysed in a report by the Bushfire CRC.

Following these devastating bushfires, the New South Wales Rural Fire Service commissioned the Bushfire CRC to conduct community-focused research with a number of fire-affected communities.

Bushfire CRC researchers conducted 194 detailed interviewers, as well as an online survey of 775 people. The online survey was targeted to the three areas, but open more broadly to fire impacted areas in NSW.

View a summary of both aspects of the research, as well as in depth reports for both here.

New South Wales Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said the research will deliver a range of benefits to the RFS.

"The NSW RFS is proud to contribute to the national research agenda, and contribute to the bank of research and knowledge around bushfire preparation and response," Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.
