Prescribed burning and its effects on forest carbon and greenhouse gases

A prescribed burn in Victoria's Otway Ranges

The latest Bushfire CRC Fire Note examines the effect of prescribed burning on forest carbon and greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere.

Fire Note 96, Environmental impacts of prescribed and wildfire - emissions management, can be found on the Fire Note page. The research is being undertaken by Dr Liubov Volkova and Dr Christopher Weston, with results from the project supplying critical information to predict the emission of greenhouse gases from biomass burning, and to identifying opportunities for greenhouse gas abatement through different forest management practices.

Dr Volkova presented on this project at the 2012 Bushfire CRC and Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC) annual conference in Perth. Presentations from the Research Forum can be found on the Research Forum page. All other presentations from the conference can be found on AFAC's Knowledge Web.
