Safe, Cost Effective Equipment

Fire engineThe Australian firefighter constantly works under hazardous conditions with a variety of vehicles and equipment.  Little research has been done into the physical hazards and the safety risk to firefighters present in firefighting vehicles and equipment.

Work was completed on firefighting vehicle engines and firefighting pump engines during experimental fires at Tumbarumba, New South Wales. Benefits of the work  included the development of preferred design guidelines for engines to operate safely in the bushfire environment.
