The main aim of this project is to understand and assess the effects on health from exposure to smoke emitted from extreme fires and prescribed burning. This project will consist of a retrospective and prospective part. The retrospective part will focus on the health effects from previous extreme bushfire events and the prospective part will focus on the health effects from future prescribed burning episodes. The project will assess exposure to bushfire smoke in rural and urban areas by using thenewly developed air quality models and relate this to severalhealth outcome measures (e.g. symptoms, medication use, ambulance attendances and emergency presentations).
