Expressions of interest are being sought for a Cooperative
Research Centre Fire – Environment and Society. The
Australasian Fire Authorities Council (AFAC) together with the
Bushfire CRC and industry partners are developing a new integrated
CRC program to address the knowledge gaps and research needs of the
fire, emergency services and land management agencies.
The Bushfire CRC was funded in 2003 for a seven year term under the
Australian Government’s Cooperative Research Centres Program
and industry contributions. The new CRC bid for Commonwealth
funding will be submitted in the 2008 grant application round.
The CRC Fire - Environment and Society CRC will support the
continued development of the Fire Knowledge Network as a means to
share research findings. It will also continue to build a base of
researchers for the industry.
The new CRC will have research projects that deliver economic
and social benefits to individuals, communities and industry
throughout Australasia. It will build on the work of the current
Bushfire CRC and conduct research to provide knowledge for agencies
and communities addressing the issues of the next two decades.
