Can ecological research address socio-political factors in fire management planning? – a case study in Western Australia

Aims:

•    investigate the influence of fire history on the biotic   composition of southern forest ecosystems;
•    develop methodology to undertake retrospective   studies on fire history.

Methods:

•    investigate historical fire data, concentrating on the   pattern of fire intervals;
•    compare flora, fauna, fungi and invertebrates at   matched sites subject to successive short fire   intervals or long fire intervals.
