Media calls

Last week’s annual conference in Sydney was a very busy communications time for the Bushfire CRC, with our team in constant demand from numerous media outlets.

The rush started with the publication just before the conference opened of our Southern Australian Seasonal Bushfire Outlook, which prompted media calls from all over Australia, resulting in Deputy CEO Richard Thornton doing many radio interviews and CEO Gary Morgan appearing on Channel 7’s The Morning Show.

The Weather Channel spent an entire day at the conference, recording interviews with many delegates. The ABC’s emergency co-ordinator Ian Mannix was on duty in the trade hall with the broadcaster’s mobile transmission vehicle. Freelance rural reporter Asa Wahlquist was busy interviewing researchers and delegates for the ABC. The Sydney Morning Herald science writer Nicky Phillips both previewed the conference and attended all of the Science Day interviewing researchers. And much more.

Without doubt, a satisfying week for both the Bushfire CRC and AFAC in getting out our research messages to a national audience.
