With the research continuing to be wound up, the focus quite rightly is shifting to utilisation, with professional development forums conducted by researchers for AFAC groups a key aspect. Last week the Rural and Land Management Group participated in a PD forum on firefighting and economics. Professor Stephen Dovers (Australian National University) and

Professor David Pannell (University of Western Australia) discussed the findings of their research into economic evaluation, with key insights from lead end user Mike Wouters (Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources SA).

As part of the forum, a series of cases studies were explored on the potential for economics to contribute to key management and policy decisions. It was very pleasing to see considerable discussion taking place.

If you would like to learn more, I would encourage you to participate in the next Research To Drive Change online forum on 17 June, which features both Professors Dovers and Pannell explaining the research findings and answering your questions. Also take a look at Fire Notes 105 and 124, as well as the full research reports.
