Welcome to the fire Research Director’s Blog. This comes at an exciting time for the Bushfire CRC with the beginnings of a new research program and new students coming on board. I know that many of you have committed substantial work in getting us to this point, and finally we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and I thank you all for this. Personally for me this is a major step forward in the evolution of the Bushfire CRC we have successfully reshaped and redesigned our research agenda, while bringing along the existing partners and building on this to make our total number of partners now to around 40: a clear endorsement of the critical role the Bushfire CRC plays in the sector.

In recent times we have had an exciting workshop with many of the social scientists hosted by the University of South Australia, if the level of enthusiasm and debate which took place among the collected 11 professors ,new researchers and end-users is anything to go by we are in for a great and fruitful ride over the next three years. There was a similar meeting held at the University of Wollongong which was similarly charged with expectation and discourse.

Now with the Commonwealth Agreement signed and the finalisation of the Participant’s Agreement we are now in the position to press the accelerator and get started with the exciting new research program.

I particularly would like to welcome all the new PhD students who have been coming on board over the last few months.  You will be the lifeblood of research in the future years and are critical to the sector.  I am sure you will find the Bushfire CRC and the sector an exciting place to be working.

I look forward to meeting many of you at the Bushfire CRC/AFAC Conference in Darwin don’t forget to drop in at our booth in the exhibition hall.
