A new book features chapters written by Natural Hazards Research Australia and Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC staff and researchers that highlight recent research on responding to natural hazards.
The Routledge Handbook of Environmental Hazards and Society (2022) provides a state-of-the-science review of research and practice in the human dimensions of hazards field. The Handbook reviews and assesses existing knowledge and explores future research priorities in this field, showcasing the work of international experts, including established researchers and practitioners.
Two chapters in Part III of the Handbook, ‘Preparedness, Responses, Impacts and Recovery’, are written by CRC researchers. Chapter 23, ‘Volunteers and community participation’ is authored by Centre Node Research Manager Dr Blythe McLennan and draws on the findings of her CRC research project, Enabling sustainable emergency volunteering.
Chapter 22 is titled ‘Evacuation versus shelter-in-place’ and is written by Adj Prof Jim McLennan (La Trobe University), A/Prof Chris Bearman (CQUniversity) and Dr Barbara Ryan (University of Southern Queensland).
