Chloe Swiney is a Bushfire Mitigation Officer for the Rural Fire Services Queensland in the Savanna District, Northern Region and has worked for the Queensland Fire Department (QFD) for 14 years. Chloe is the project coordinator for the Women in Fire Training Exchange (AUS WTREX), which has a specific focus on Indigenous women locally and globally. Chloe has participated in the Karuk Women’s Training Exchange (KWTREX), who were leading traditional burning techniques alongside other Indigenous women from around the globe, broadening her skills and reinforcing the significance of traditional knowledge in contemporary fire management. Chloe received the QFD Commissioners Certificate of Appreciation in 2024 for her exceptional contribution to the Close the Gap initiatives. She also has experience in deployments to Canada, where she helped to combat record breaking wildfires over a four-week period.
