About
Dr Leanne Greenwood grew up in Nairobi and currently lives and works on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung County. Dr Greenwood is an ecologist at the University of Melbourne. She completed a PhD working with Martu in Western Australia, where she investigated how Martu's burning influences fire mosaic patterns and plant communities.
As part of her PhD, she also investigated how fire influenced different trophic groups of fungi. She then went on to work as the Cultural Fire Strategic Planning Officer at Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation in Victoria, where she led the development of the Djandak Wi ('Country Fire') Strategy.
Dr Greenwood is profoundly grateful to have had the opportunity to experience cultural burns and to have worked with Indigenous research partners and Indigenous fire practitioners. She is passionate about cross-discipline research and ethical cross-cultural collaboration.
