  • Wednesday 18 June - Critical issues and opportunities keynotes and panels with Iain MacKenzie (Chair, Natural Hazards Research Australia), Brendan Moon AM (Coordinator-General, National Emergency Management Agency), Prof Ariella Helfgott (Foresight Director, South Australia Futures Agency), Tiahni Adamson (Wildlife Conservation Biologist and 2024 Young South Australian of the Year). 

  • Thursday 19 June - Learning local and global keynotes and panels with A/Prof Susanna Jenkins (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore), Dr Richard Smith (Resilience to Nature’s Challenges, New Zealand), Distinguished Prof Christine Kenney (Massey University, New Zealand) and A/Prof Melissa Parsons (University of New England). 

  • Friday 20 June - Do governments trust communities? with Mark Duckworth PSM (Deakin University).  Tropical Cyclone Alfred – lessons for Australia panel discussion with Jai O’Toole (Australian Red Cross), Liz Drumm (Local Government Association of Queensland), Dr David Henderson (Cyclone Testing Station, James Cook University) and Glen Dolan (Energex). 

Nominate researchers with impact 

Last days to nominate for the Centre’s inaugural research awards. The awards celebrate exceptional research and teamwork that has enabled research to be used to support better decision making that saves lives and protects communities in the following categories:  

  • Natural Hazards Research Australia research team award  

  • Natural Hazards Research Australia postgraduate student award  

Award submissions close 11.59pm AEST, 1 June 2025.  

Eligibility criteria: 

  • Recipient of a Natural Hazards Research Australia or the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC scholarship, or membership of the Associate Program  

  • Within three years of completion   

  • Submission must include two referee statements of support
