An updated strategic plan to guide research for the next two years is now available.
The Biennial Research Plan 2024-2026 provides a snapshot of key research focus and capability areas. Updates from the previous version are minimal, indicating that the Centre’s Participants believe that the Centre’s research direction is sound.
Spanning two years, Biennial Research Plans undergo annual reviews to ensure the research program is adaptive to the evolving hazard risks and meets the expectations of Participants. Current drivers influencing natural hazard risk and the updated Biennial Research Plan include environmental, societal, infrastructural, capability, workforce, political and economic changes.
The Centre uses this latest iteration of the Biennial Research Plan 2024–26 to guide the prioritisation of research activities until 2026, continuously working towards the vision of communities that are safer, more resilient and sustainable in the face of natural hazards, including:
- immediate research priorities and updated key focus areas
- targeted key capability areas
- detail of broad research activities currently planned until 2026, including core, commissioned, responsive disaster and postgraduate/Early Career Researcher research
- translation, implementation and adoption of research outcomes
- engagement with other Australian research initiatives
- investments in a research-skilled workforce and research-informed knowledge transfer
- the process for updating the Biennial Research Plan 2024–26 in 2025.
The Plan outlines updated key focus and capability areas, which respond to the evolving drivers and priorities of natural hazard risks. The revised focus areas are illustrated in the following diagram, demonstrating their interconnectedness with capabilities and are further outlined within the Plan.
CEO Andrew Gissing says that the Centre’s research progress is on track.
“The Biennial Research Plan sets the framework for the Centre’s user-driven research investments and approach. It is great to see the significant progress of Centre towards the achievement of its objectives” Andrew says.
The Biennial Research Plan 2024–26 was reviewed in consultation with representatives from the Centre’s Participants and subject matter experts. It was endorsed by the Centre’s Board in June.
