This project will perform a comprehensive review into Community Fire Units (CFUs) across Australia, assessing their current effectiveness, identifying opportunities for improvement, and providing strategic recommendations for their future role in bushfire preparedness, response and community resilience.

Project details

This review will help ensure CFUs are fit-for-purpose, appropriately resourced and aligned with best practices in community-based disaster risk reduction. 

Key objectives of the project will include evaluating the effectiveness and consistency of CFU models across jurisdictions, identifying knowledge and capability gaps, clarifying the evolving role of CFUs, assessing equity and access, and informing policy and strategy.
